From the Publisher: I have been
asked many questions as to how things work with solo ads. This site is an
ongoing attempt to educate. Check back often.
What is a solo ad? A solo ad is
a stand-alone (no other ads or articles) promotion that is sent to opt-in
readers by a company or publisher of an ezine or
newsletter. It may be within the newsletter or ezine
or sent out by itself, which is how LOGON Ad Agency runs the promotion. It may
be submitted using an online form (no contact with publisher or company) or by
the publisher requesting the information (ad copy) which is how we choose to do
it as it’s more personal and there’s little chance for mistakes. A solo
advertisement is the best way to promote your business, product or service.
A solo ad should (must)
create interest (subject line), state a benefit (ad copy), give a deadline to
act on your offer (a free gift or advice is good), supply contact info - (your
name, email address and/or phone number). It should be short and precise. The
URL you are sending your potential customer to will give all the info necessary
– your solo is the teaser, the action creator, the reason for the reader to go
to your web site. Don’t overwhelm the reader with info in your solo – get them
to your web site.
Remember – sending a solo once or twice won’t get the results
you want. You must earn the potential customer’s respect and their “need” for
your offer, be it a product or service. Would you buy or join a program without
knowing who is in charge or what you are going to receive for your money? You
need to find a source to send your solo-ads through and stick with them. The
normal response time for a reader to click that link is from 4 to 7 times. They
must become familiar with your name and offer – advertising does that…
How long can a solo ad
be?
That depends on the publisher that is running the ad. The advertiser
goes by their instructions. With LOGON
your promotion can be as long as needed and is in text only (saves money as
HTML runs are more expensive). We do advise that your promo not be too long as
the reader may become bored. We will help you with ad content if needed and.within reason.
How many read your
promotion? This is hard for me to answer. There is no way for a
publisher of your promotion to know how many will open the email with your solo
in it. There are a wide range of reasons, like –
A powerful to-the-point
subject line (something that YOU might respond to) can make the world of
difference. Too many times a subject line is used too often (too many
advertisers use the same ones) and the reader has already read it. We request
different subject lines for each run even if the ad copy is the same. You need
to be creative with your promo. Use your own words and give the reader your
contact info. The subject line is the first ‘attention-getter!’ Make it good!
Although we have very few
‘bounce’s, some subscribers change their email, delete it or requested we use another
email address and this makes things impossible for us to track.
Another thing we often see
that affects response time is that some may not read your email for a week or
even longer (on vacation or busy).
Although publishers clean
their lists often, bounces happen continually. When a publisher or company says
your promotion will go to X amount of readers, it is usually an educated guess.
You should know and trust those you are dealing with in this regard. You can
also use a tracker on your URL. That will tell you how many open and/or receive
your promotions.
Those in sales know and
realize it is subject to the ‘law of large numbers’. This applies to everybody attempting to sell online,
like you.
The process for sending a
solo promotion with our Ad Agency:
When we get an email from
someone wanting to purchase a solo (or classified ad within our newsletter) we
will send them to this web site – the one you are now reading, advise them to
read it and email us with any further questions or concerns (which is where we
get the content for this site). When the potential advertiser and a member of
our staff are comfortable with how things work, our customer will go to PayPal
and send the required and agreed upon amount. They will send us their ad copy,
subject line and any instructions they choose to include.
I will then send them the
run date(s) for their solo(s). When the solo runs, I will send them a copy of
the actual promo as it went to the readers. We have 4 lists receiving our
customer’s promos so the time it takes to complete runs varies – from 2 to 4
days – depending on how many solos are purchased and if a weekend is involved
(we don’t send on Sundays unless the advertiser asks).
For another fee, your
promotion can be online for all LOGON readers to see – like
this. We created this dynamic feature so that our LOGON newsletter readers
who don’t receive solo ads – ones who have opted out of that feature – can then
see your ad online. Our LOGON newsletter readers also like the LOGON Business
News that we run twice a month. So, your solo promotion can be sent to our lists
and be
online for all our subscribers to read.
Things NOT to do when
building a relationship with a publisher:
Publishers are very busy
people. They are helpful and love hearing from their customers and readers.
That said – please don’t ask them to write your ads for you unless you are
willing to pay the extra fee for them to do so. There are other services for
that so ask the publisher to send you the info on who can prepare custom ads
for you. If the publisher creates ads they will let you know and charge you
accordingly.
If you are a complete newbie
(and we love them, also) let the publisher know. They will help you get the
information you need, like: how to cut & paste your ad copy – how to create
a subject line – what to expect for your purchase. However, with that said,
when your run has finished and you are not happy with the results – DON’T run
to PayPal and request a refund. If you do that, after the publisher has done
all possible to help you and run your solo(s), you will probably get banned by
many other publishers as all publishers know other publishers and believe it or
not, there are some folks who do just that – get the services and demand
refunds. That is NOT a good thing to do. We publishers will sometimes give a
complimentary run or two for a customer who state they received not “one sale”
so it’s not necessary (nor professionally responsible on your part) to hold the
publisher responsible for a “no result” ad campaign. It is no one’s fault – it
happens. That’s marketing and advertising in the real world and online world!
The key is to be consistent in your ad campaign, do your homework, be
resourceful and treat others as you want to be treated.

Thanks Bobbette, I'm sorry for e-mailing you so much. I'm pretty new to ezine advertising. And from what i was told, it
was the fastest way to see results for your biz. And the only reason why i was
emailing you back was because i didn't receive one sale as of yet. But
the website that you just sent me really help
me out a lot. By the way, the presentation on the site is very
professional. I really like it. Well like i said again I'm kinda new, so i apologize for
so many bothersome emails :-). And one last thing,
you never have to worry about me requesting a refund. Taking risks is part
of investing, your not always going to get the results you hoped for. You must
simply try again. Well thank you so much Bobbette. This really educated me. Thanks Mike
